International Week

A recurring event at Philippine schools is International Week. This year's theme was “Unity in Diversity: A World of Rhythm.”

During International Week, children learn about other countries, their inhabitants and cultures, as well as their history.

At Papaya School, too, attention is always paid to International Week in various ways, and this year's highlight was an exhibition of everything the children, from the youngest toddlers to the oldest group, had made. The preschoolers coloured in pictures of dolls wearing traditional clothing from various countries, grades 1 and 2 made flags, and pupils in grades 3 and 4 also made ‘international dolls’, but entirely from cardboard.

The Philippines has a long history in which the country was dominated by various countries. The oldest groups, grades 5 and 6, created a model of countries that – as a result of their mutual history – have influenced the current Philippine culture.

For many pupils, the special quiz at the end of the week was also a very popular activity. Pupils from grades 4 to 6 (groups 6 to 8 in the Netherlands) learned about various aspects of Philippine history and then competed with this knowledge for the title of ‘International Quiz Bee Talent 2025’.’
