Because education helps!

The Kalinga Foundation devotes itself to children in extreme poverty living in and around the Payatas rubbish dump in Manila (Philippines). Kalinga offers them tools with which they can build a better future for themselves.

What we do

The Kalinga Foundation offers future prospects to children living in extreme poverty around the Manila's largest rubbish dump. We do this by giving them a handle on how to build a better future for themselves through good education.

Projects

Papaya School

A primary school (similar to grade 2 to grade 8) that provides quality education to children living around a large rubbish dump in Manila.

Apple Scholarships

Scholarships for students who want to continue learning at a secondary or vocational school after their time at Papaya School.

Pineapple Project

Projects for and by parents with the aim of generating a better family income allowing their children to focus on school (instead of work).

Help

Currently, Kalinga Foundation supports 210 primary school pupils (similar to grades 2-8) and nearly 170 secondary school pupils and students.

Without the help of donors and sponsors, this would not be possible, and in order to continue supporting the children as well as enabling new pupils to join in the coming years, we need your help.

  • for €7.50, a child has a healthy (hot) lunch every school day for a whole month
  • for €42, a student gets a year of textbooks
  • for €145, a complete class receives a year's worth of exercise books
  • for €34.50, a pupil can be brought to school and back home for the whole school year.
