Pinapple Project
Pineapple Project
The Pineapple Project was established for and by the parents of Papaya students. The project aims to generate extra family income that can (partly) compensate for the lost income of children going to school - and therefore not working.

Products for sale
The Pineapple Project is all about developing products to sell. The products are mainly made from used materials. The products made from papertwine (rolled waste paper) and bayong (strips of plastic) are sold the most. Generally, parents make the products at home, in between other daily activities.
Most products are sold in special bazaars in the Philippines itself, but now shipments also go abroad with some regularity.
Information meetings are also organised for parents on personal hygiene, budgeting, family planning, healthy eating (on a small budget) or guidance on applying for and realising micro-credits. These meetings aim to involve an entire family and support them.Â
Other projects

Apple scholars
Kalinga Foundation started a small-scale scholarship programme in spring 2001. Through this programme, the Kalinga Foundation supported a small number of children who were keen to learn, but were still unable to attend school due to poverty within their families

Papaya School
In 2003, the Kalinga Foundation established the Papaya School. The Papaya School stands for free education for talented but very poor children from the Payatas rubbish dump and surrounding areas.
